Back in the Whoniverse

Picture Spoilers Ahoy!

So we are now counting down to the conclusion of the 2011 season, which will apparently return in both the UK & US on the unusual date of 27 August, rather than 3 September which most had expected. A fair bit was out of the bag for the occasion of Comic-Con. As well as TWO trailers (oddly one for just "The God Complex" episode) there was a lovely cast promo, see below which teases us with a pyramid and Rory's pert bottom. It also marks the official unveiling of the Doctor's new overcoat, mostly brought in to keep Matt warm during winter filming.

The trailer also reveals some weird and wonderful things - with the one I've pictured last causing the most fan chatter. All of our regulars look to be given moments of greatness.

After all the recent acrimony over future production plans for 2012 and the 50th anniversary in 2013 seeming to be pared back and reports of fueds between Steven Moffat and new BBC One controller Danny Cohen, just as both of Moffat's fellow producers leave the show, I have trust in the show and suspect this will all blow over. Even cast concerns have allayed when considered alongside the new working pattern, though I was a bit alarmed to hear everyone was recently dragged back for a day's filming on "Let's Kill Hitler" despite having otherwise wrapped at the end of April. Karen Gillan confirmed at the weekend she will return for series 7, probably arriving late in 2012, despite TV and theatre commitments. Arthur Darvill has yet to voice a similar confirmation, but we may find out in September when this year's Christmas special is to be filmed. It seems unlikely to me that one would continue without their spouse on board, though Arthur is tied to playing Mephistopheles at London's Globe theatre into early October. We know of course already the Matt Smith has signed up to play the Doctor until at least the anniversary, something he always seems very keen on being a part of.

Radio Times: "The Naked Doctor"

At last, Matt Smith's portrayal of Christopher Isherwood in "Christopher & His Kind" is hitting the screens on BBC Two at 9.30pm this Saturday (19 March). This has, none too surprisingly, made the cover of the new "Radio Times". Just as well because the Royal Wedding has precluded a cover for the start of the new series of "Doctor Who" on Easter Saturday.

The news series begins the same day on BBC America, who have released promo shots including the one below.

Doctor Who does Comic Relief!

As was doubly confirmed this week, both by an official BBC news release and the above next DWM cover (out 10 March), there will be a six-minute special "Doctor Who" sketch for this year's Comic Relief which appears to feature two Amy Ponds. That should be part of the main TV show on Friday, 18th March. Though the main show has done several contributions to Children In Need over the years, most notably "Time Crash" in 2007 and the Eastenders crossover "Dimensions In Time" in 1993, I don't think anything has been done for Comic Relief. There was a Ronnie Corbett-as-a Slitheen skit last time with the "Sarah Jane Adventures" gang though. The canonicity of all of these will be hotly debated.

In what seems to be a general trend for this biennual charity, much of the activity happens in the runup, working as a slow-burn PR strategy. This year we also have the cast of the Inbetweeners travelling to Britain's rudest sounding places, a celebrity Kazoo orchestra for Radio 3, comedian flavour crisp contest (losers get body waxed), presenters/DJs from all the BBC radio stations attempting stand-up slots, and the traditional Comic Relief single, this time by boyband The Wanted (below). And much more as they say!

New magazine covers: Attitude & DWM

Managed to get the latest cover shots of two of my fave periodicals today.

First we have the sultry Harry Judd covering "Attitude" and promising more McFly naked shots.

Then, in the first issue of another redesign, we have the first promo shot from the 2011 series on "Doctor Who Magazine"

Attitude also revamped last month, though the most obvious difference in both appears to be the cover font ...

Strictly Naked Totty - Artem & Robin

Though it's fair to say that those bits of these "Strictly Come Dancing" pros that have not been flashed on the prime-time dance-floor are still not revealed here, this is a distracting Cosmo photo.

(Artem has done one for Now magazine that actually reveals more while not actually nude, if you see what I mean)

Attitude December 2010 - sex issue

Thanks to the Deep Dish blog for alerting me to this one.

For the new issue of Attitude a gatefold cover features a dozen models from the Randy Blue gay born studio who are modeling Adidas Originals range.

At the same time this odd little video has emerged of them lip-synching to Kylie ... some with more success than others ...

Cricket Totty - James Anderson in Attitude

Sorry, I've been a bit slow to pick up on this - maybe because it was made public on my birthday on Monday which was also a local holiday.

Anyway, England cricketer has become the latest straight celeb to drop 'em for "Attitude" in their October issue. It accompanies a pro-gay interview.

Of course Anderson already has posed naked with colleagues Stuart Broad and Alastair Cook in "Cosmopolitan".

There definitely seems to be a great change in attitude happening within sport as regards this sort of thing. Possibly generational, as the stars have generally been in their 20s, and also to attract a new audience to their respective sports.

Whether we get to the levels seen in Brazil's G magazine (with straight celebs not only showing off full frontal but getting hard and doing cumshots) is another matter, though full frontal is gaining ground via Dieux du Stade's calendar. Yet to see who's exposing themselves in the 2011 edition.

On a related note. it also appears the Edinburgh rugby team are doing another calendar. Let's hope they have learned from their mistakes in the 2010 one - they are putting in some sort of effort already, as three of them bravely faced Festival crowds and paraded in their pants on the Royal Mile last month, which one of them hinted was calendar related.

Covered in Matt

Matt Smith was the first Doctor Who to make the cover of a gay magazine back in the Spring, now he becomes possibly the only person to cover GT magazine twice in one year. This time it's for "Christopher and His Kind", which I presume from this is on BBC Two in October? Also nipple flashing is co-star Douglas Booth.

Meanwhile the confirmed artwork for the season 5 DVD box set has been revealed. It's an improvement on the latter Tennant box sets.

Village Totty covers Attitude's September issue

The rather sexy straight actor who plays (nearly) the only gay in the village of "Emmerdale" - Danny Miller - is the cover star of the September 2010 which is out today.

While I'm on the subject of young Mr Miller, I also found this little thing for Cosmo:

Doctor Who at the Proms this weekend

Just a little reminder that this year's "Doctor Who" prom is only hours away. It will be recorded for BBC Three & red button screenings later in the year but you can listen live on BBC Radio Three tonight from 7.30 until 9.45. Matt Smith (plus Karen and Arthur) will be there with the orchestra. It will be on iPlayer for 7 days afterwards too.

A marvellous online programme for the concert is here

May I also take this opportunity to plug the new "Doctor Who Magazine", which I picked up in Tesco this morning. Fab interviews with one current (Rory) and one past (Adric) male companion, one off silly comic strip, feature on "The War Machines", plus reviews and some news of forthcoming audios, DVDs and the upcoming series. Very much worth £4.20 of your earth money.

Those Attitude Covers: June 2010

No idea who that is on the main cover, but the 'Active' cover with the Head Boy Scout, Bear Grylls makes up ;-)

NB - For those unaware I may be a little quiet barring pre-loads, as my MacBook has died again - hopefully only a battery problem.

Model Watch: Turning Scarlet

Did any fellow gay porn consumers double-take when they saw the cover of the latest edition of Scarlet?

I could have sworn this was the model going by the rather humourous name of Christian Bishop for Men At Play and UK Naked Men in recent months (samples below).

Having noted this very vaguely on the Slaves to Vanity Facebook page though I was contacted by PM in minutes by the model on the magazine cover  to say it wasn't him, but that his gay friends had already mentioned the similarity and could I remove my comment (which I did - he was all very pleasant about it).

So just saying  it's definitely not him, OK?

The Attitude 2010 naked issue

Something to search out in your local newsagents - the May issue of "Attitude". Cover star is the rather delish Danny Young, one-time "Coronation Street" star and recent "Dancing On Ice" competitor (and I'd not be surprised if he turned up in Albert Square within a year)

PS Craig Dayyyyy-vid is the 'Active' cover star

"Radio Times" layout revamp this week

Yes, I know it might not be the cover you've got, but as STV isn't showing Joanna Lumley's Nile programme she's been unceremoniously dropped by "Radio Times" too. Don't know why they want to avoid embarrassing STV though.

Anyway, to the revamp, as the cover layout remains largely the same ...

Each day now has two whole preview pages, which go across the board on all platforms rather than sitting alongside their relevant listings. Useful if there's more stuff on one platform than another on a particular day, but it still retains some sub-indexing in the rightmost column.

The change most likely to rile - daytime (here defined as before 5pm) has been relegated literally to the margin, and the rather pointless re-iteration of the main Freeview channels has been dropped entirely. Pretty unchanged after that as far as I can see though the BBC One and Two share one page with the commercial channels sharing the opposite page.

Glad that the regional variations gets a bit more prominence for those that don't know what BBC Scotland and STV are editing from view.

The non-terrestrials now get six pages and these are the only two I'll be using as a Freeviewer.

After that are two pages of "satellite and cable", then "films and sport" with just their dedicated channels.

Completely new is this rundown of the Top 10 catch-up TV. Not sure about this yet, but I'm not able to make the most of iPlayer etc on my wi-fi allowance. Others may find it invaluable, if subjective.

Doctor Who covers Gay Times!

Looks like GT has really pulled out the stops this month! It's made history as the first gay magazine to have the Doctor on the cover (in what looks like an exclusive shot with Matt Smith) and runs an extensive feature on the new series with a mass of interviews.

Combom has a good overview of what is revealed (in one case literally) inside.

Of course GT has already caused a stir with another story this weeK:

This (April 2010) issue is out now.

Attitude's 'Older' Issue - April 2010 main cover

As has now become a habit, here's the next 'Attitude' cover, starring 'Ender Bender' and soon to be talent show judge, John Partridge.

The alternative 'Active' cover star is apparently a mega-buffed Ronan Keating.

Matt Smith Esquire

As part of the promotional drive for the new series of "Doctor Who" and its new leading man, Matt Smith, he's done a fashion shoot for Esquire magazine's April 2010 issue. The pic here comes from a 'News of the World ' preview article yesterday - hopefully further, better shots will emerge soon.

Wow! SFX exclusive animated "Doctor Who" cover

Dunno if it'll work here (I don't know how it works anyway), but SFX's next issue (out 10 March) has this whizzo animated cover featuring the Doctor, Amy and some Weeping Angels in the woods.
