In recent months, and most especially in the last few weeks, actress Joanna Lumley has sealed her place as a cherished national treasure and emerged a force to be reckoned with. Those in the UK need no explanation but for overseas readers check this press conference on behalf of the Gurkhas last month. Only last week she pressured the PM into a meeting and followed up the next day by basically taking the numpty Immigration minister hostage on live TV in Westminster.
So it's a very deserved tribute I present here, made from her 3 most famous fictional roles in chronological order ...
First to late 1976, with a hairdo that launched the eponymous bob across the nation, here's Purdey in action (have to say I don't remember those naff "New Avengers" titles)
Shortly after, in a series I felt was hampered by lack of budget (and an untimely ITV strike) Lumley teamed up with David McCallum in "Sapphire and Steel". Here's a montage to the very apt "Blue Eyes", a track from the year of their very final assignment, 1982.
You can also see Joanna interview her co-star, while standing in on "Wogan" in 1989, here.
Last but certainly not least we have another montage featuring Patsy Stone in Jennifer Saunders' iconic 90s sitcom, "Absolutely Fabulous". Here, Edina and Patsy are at the height of their powers joining the Pet Shop Boys for the 1994 Comic Relief single named after the show.
